Concerned with losing revenue to offshore competitors, and evolving pandemic challenges, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) came to GLI with the goal of launching Alberta’s first regulated online gaming portal. The site would serve as a way to increase revenues and keep money raised by Albertans in the province. GLI and AGLC have a decades-long strong relationship, and AGLC was one of the first jurisdictions GLI tested for in land-based gaming. That longevity, combined with the fact that GLI is the pioneer in online gaming standards development, testing, and security auditing, made GLI the natural choice for AGLC.
The process began by GLI assisting AGLC with establishing of robust technical standards. GLI and our cybersecurity arm – Bulletproof, a GLI Company worked closely with AGLC, helping them to develop their standards for fair, secure, and auditable online gaming. Once the standards were in place, GLI performed all the necessary compliance testing for the online Platform, Random Number Generator (RNG) and Games. Additionally, Bulletproof conducted independent Quality Assurance (QA) testing and tested functionality, payments, game play, registration, and geolocation login tests from both inside and outside Alberta.
In GLI, we have discovered a serious, professional, and committed partner, and we are very pleased with the decision to work with GLI on the platform and our games for Alberta. The GLI team is talented, responsive, and engaged, and we are excited to walk the path together toward the expansion of the product to new verticals and the introduction of new capabilities for Alberta's players.”
It will be a safe, reliable website focused on social responsibility, and keeps money raised in the province in Alberta.”
As the pioneer in iGaming and Sports Book testing and certification, GLI has the most online gaming knowledge and experience globally. We are proud to have helped Alberta and all other Canadian Provinces currently online with their technical standards and/or mission critical online gaming testing deployments to date."
We don’t expect to take much of that revenue from existing operators, we expect to take that from existing, illicit offshore operators.”
GLI tested all components to a combination of standards: “AGLC’s Technical Standards for Interactive Gambling” and “GLI-19 Standards for Interactive Gaming Systems.” To meet the needs of the various suppliers and stakeholders involved in the project, GLI and Bulletproof leveraged testing and auditing resources from our locations in both Europe and North America.
AGLC successfully launched PlayAlberta.ca on October 1, 2020 as the province’s first and only regulated online gaming portal. PlayAlberta.ca is available to Albertans over the age of 18 and physically located within the province’s borders. The site offers virtual table games, slots, and scratch contests, and will eventually expand to include bingo, live dealer and sports betting. The speed at which this project took place mandated all parties to work in unison with the highest degree of cooperation and collaboration, all under tight deadlines, and without any degradation in quality or integrity. GLI has the most online gaming knowledge and experience and have now helped Alberta and all other Canadian Provinces currently online with their technical standards and/or mission critical online gaming testing deployments to date.
Because of GLI’s unique position as the only lab approved to test for all regulated online jurisdictions across the globe, the company can facilitate a ‘submit once – test for all’ regulated jurisdictions approach. Therefore, suppliers who passed GLI’s testing for AGLC’s PlayAlberta.ca site can export their testing results over to other highly regulated jurisdictions with ease. This is because the rigor of testing performed for PlayAlberta.ca was done to a high-level of standards. “AGLC’s Technical Standards for Interactive Gambling” and “GLI-19 Standards for Interactive Gaming Systems” take into account best practices and online rules and requirements from other highly regulated jurisdictions around the world, which makes transferring results from GLI’s testing frictionless and a tremendous value-add for suppliers.
