Midwest Gaming Investigators & Regulators Conference & Roundtable 2021
Midwest Gaming Investigators & Regulators (MGIR)
Spring 2021 Training Conference and Roundtable
April 13-15, Sioux City, Iowa
GLI presentation: April 15, 9:30 a.m. local time
GLI’s Vice President of Government Relations & General Counsel Kevin Mullally and Senior Engineering Manager Andrew Baran will address attendees on the timely topic, “Illegal & Unregulated Gambling in a Post-COVID World.” This informative session will focus on the technology used in illegal and unregulated gambling operations, the impact they have on public policy and proposed law enforcement, and regulatory and legislative solutions to this growing problem.
While illegal and unregulated gambling was a growing problem before the COVID-19 crisis, today the enormous backlog in the courts and criminal justice system will push the prosecution of illegal gambling further down the list of priorities. Meanwhile, legal gambling operations will emerge under a variety of regulatory controls to protect patron health.
These factors create an enhanced risk that unregulated gambling will feel emboldened by greatly reduced chances of prosecution, promoting even greater growth while placing consumers at risk and eroding state and tribal public policy relating to gambling.
